News: Government To Acquire Highland Towers Site For Redevelopment

Sep 3, 2019

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin revealed that the land occupied by the long-abandoned Highland Towers will be acquired by the government.

The Highland Towers’ site, along with the adjoining two blocks, will be redeveloped into a recreational park having 50 bungalows, reported Free Malaysia today.

Zuraida said the acquisition will be carried out via the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, based on the Land Acquisition Act.

“We have asked the Selangor MB (Amirudin Shari) to speed it up,” she said after visiting Salak South New Village.

Zuraida said that getting feedback from all the house owners have been delayed as some of them are overseas.

Her ministry’s plan was to get feedback from the remaining 29 house owners, 14 of whom already agreed to the high-rise condominium block’s demolition for redevelopment.

However, the remaining 15 were outside the country and their lawyers have yet to contact her ministry, Zuraida said.

In the meantime, the demolition works had to be suspended to allow the Highland Towers Re-Development Committee and the Public Works Department to conduct a study on the soil’s structure.
